We have added the following new functionalities to the RSS News application:
- Search Feeds: you can now find your favorite feeds with the built-in feed search engine. Just enter a search term and add feeds to your list from a set of results The functionality is available both on your mobile: when you choose Add Feed there is now a Search Feed menu; and in your web account: click on the Add RSS Feed button, then the Search Feed button. The search engine is powered by Google.
- Import and Export OPML: by popular demand we have added the import and export of OPML in your web account. OPML is an XML fomat used commonly to exchange lists of web feeds. Most News readers and aggregators like Newsgator, Google Reader,.. allow you to export your feeds as OPML.
When you click on Import OPML, you can either specify the http URL of a public OPML feed, or upload an OPML file from your disk. If the OPML contains a structure with folders, the folders will automatically be mapped to existing folders in your account, or new ones will be created. Only one-level of folders is created, i.e. there are no subfolders in folders. Note that if you clicked on the Import link from within a folder list page, the news feeds will be added to that folder – except if it’s under a folder in the OPML, i.e. the folders specified in the OPML override the default folder.
Export OPML will generate an OPML file that you can download to your disk. The file lists all the feeds in your account, and also preserves the folder structure if there are any folders in your account.
- Organize Feeds in Folders: you can now create folders to organize your news feeds. There is one level of folders only. On your mobile, goto Edit Folders from the application start page, to create a new folder or rename or delete a folder. To move a feed to a folder, open the Feed and select Edit Feed, then Move To. You can now also rename and delete a feed. In your web account, click on the Edit Folders link in the left pane. You can create a new folder and rename or delete an existing folder.
The updated RSS News app will automatically be downloaded to your Upvise mobile client the next time you open the application. If you were already in the RSS News app, go back to the library of apps, refresh the page by pressing the * key, then re-open RSS News.
